A Sleepy Shark Lullabye

Imagine finding yourself at midnight surrounded by sharks, stingrays, alligators, snakes, and poison dart frogs. Sounds just like San Antonio Aquarium after the lights go out, the guests and staff go home, the birds fall asleep, and the octopus comes out to eat and shake tentacles with an unexpecting human.

The San Antonio Aquarium has a variety of different opportunities to Sleep With The Sharks, from Girl Scout Nights, Boy Scout Nights, to Public Sleep With Sharks Nights.  Private parties often rent out the entire aquarium.

The evening begins with guests arriving at the San Antonio Aquarium at 7pm where guests have the opportunity to walk around before the lights go off. Guests can explore the marine life, meet the reptiles, talk to the parrots, and stroll through a brand new 7000 sq. ft. outdoor aviary before the sun goes down. Taking some time to get to know the Aquarium allows guests to scout out and decide where they would like to sleep for the night.

Jurassic park fans often choose to sleep with towering dinosaurs, while ocean enthusiasts set up camp closer to sleek sharks, friendly stingrays, slithery eels, graceful jellies, colorful reef fish, and reptile fans sleep by stunning albino Burmese Pythons.  A popular sleeping sight is our incredible Giant Pacific Octopus.

Guides take groups on an educational tour of the exhibits where there is an opportunity to help feed the stingrays their dinner, view spectacular varieties of corals under ultraviolet light, touch and hold some of the reptiles that are normally housed behind-the-scenes, and interact with several nocturnal species, such as the sharks, rays, octopus, horseshoe crabs, blue spiny lobster, snakes, and tree frogs.

After the tour, you are welcome to explore the exhibits on your own, and your host or hostess may even treat you to a play session with Pearl the Giant Pacific Octopus, or selfies with Lucille the Ball Python! The general play areas will be available to children, and each guest will receive glow toys such as necklaces and bracelets, to enjoy in the dark. Toward the end of the evening, wind down with a movie and popcorn, followed by a restful night by the rhythmic bubbles and currents of the tanks.

A generous continental breakfast is served at 7 am, and includes a wide variety of cereals, granola bars, milk, juice, and fruits. After breakfast, it’s time to feed breakfast to the birds! Meet our colorful Rainbow Lorikeets, and watch as they rush to greet you and lap up fruit nectar using specialized tongues with hairs like a paintbrush. You will still have another hour or two to enjoy your morning Sleepy Shark Lullabye.
